C-IAYT and E-RYT500
Holly is a contemplative teacher and the visionary force behind Circle Yoga Shala. She is also a mother, a horsewoman, and an internationally certified yoga therapist.
With a commitment spanning over three decades, Holly has pursued ancient teachings and methodologies grounded in self-observation and self-inquiry, including more than thirty years in the recovery tradition.
Holly has been privileged to study with Father Richard Rohr in his prestigious three-year Living School, a non-dual wisdom institution in partnership with the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, NM.
For the past twenty-five years, she has worked with individuals and groups both domestically and internationally.
Holly has evolved into a master in her own right, embodying wisdom cultivated through her diverse experiences and profound studies.
“I lead a full and content life that is a result of fearless sensitive living and radical acceptance of what is.
If a way of 'being' has culminated or been reinforced from my engagement with Yoga, it is that of surrender. Surrender to the divine, and to what is happening in each moment, maintaining a felt connection to Self which is the opposite of getting lost in mechanical action as the basis for joy and peace in the midst of this beautiful play of MA(ya).”

C-IAYT, E-RYT500, Ayurvedic Chef, Philosopher, and Movement Enthusiast
Matthew has been a practitioner of Yoga and Ayurveda for three decades and has had the privilege of training teachers for over twenty years. He is responsible for developing Circle Yoga Shala’s 200-hour and 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training programs and the IAYT-accredited Yoga Therapy Program.
As an owner of a yoga studio for ten years before co-founding Circle Yoga Shala in 2009, he developed an extensive private client base for which he adapted asana, pranayama, and meditation techniques to individuals who sought Yoga as a therapeutic modality for issues ranging from structural/biomechanical pathologies to digestive problems, depression and anxiety disorders, and spiritual development.
He also utilizes his professional training as a chef to design Ayurvedic meals for those best supported by dietary change.
Matt uses Viniyoga techniques as a template for organizing strategies and approaches to working with private clients, combined with Western biological theories of development. So, the movements he uses in rehabilitation situations are gleaned and adapted from models of pre-and post-natal development and the sequence of gait acquisition that is universally observed in bipedal organisms.
His private work has grown to include designing programs for elite athletes, many of whom compete on the world stage: tennis players, bullfighters, beach volleyball players, and rock climbers.
“My work has been a crucible of convergence between eastern and western models of the human system. To that end, my life’s work is to help alleviate the suffering of individuals on all levels of being human for the purposes of flourishing and liberation.”

Yoga Therapist, E-RYT500
Stela has been living next door to the Shala since 2017 and has since become an integral part of its diverse trainings and activities. Her contributions are wide-ranging, from teaching in the Yoga Therapy and Yoga Teacher Training programs to co-facilitating retreats on specialized topics like Ayurveda and the Enneagram. Additionally, she plays a crucial role in curriculum development, website management, and marketing.
Leveraging her corporate and academic experience, Stela brings exceptional organizational skills that have significantly enhanced the Shala's offerings and enriched the learning experience for all participants. Her dedication to fostering a world-class yoga education, grounded in both ethical rigor and scientific insight, is matched by her deep respect for the sacred and esoteric essence of the teachings.
Personally, Stela is committed to building her homestead and continuing her transformative journey under the mentorship of Holly and Matt. Her passion lies in delivering a holistic yoga education that honors both the practical and spiritual dimensions of this ancient practice.
And if you’re wondering about her accent, she was born and raised in Romania. :)
“My passion is to share the sacred teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda with students in the pursuit of self-knowledge and freedom from suffering.”

C-IAYT, E-RYT500
Jayme holds a bachelor's in Media Sales and Management from SIU-Carbondale, where she played basketball. She had a professional basketball career in Europe before returning to get a Master's in Business from Wichita State University, where she trained D1 athletes as a strength coach.
Her yoga career began in 2012 as a resident of the Himalayan Institute, where she taught, managed retreats, and produced yoga courses for YogaInternational. She has owned a studio in Springfield, MO, and now teaches online.
“I hope to be content, of benefit to my community, and to make art of my life. I pray that we all work in a good way together as though forgiveness, joy, and freedom are possible for everyone.”
Anna, Program Graduate
“I came in search of intellectual knowledge about yoga, but what I walked away with far exceeded my expectations. Circle Yoga Shala provided me with a foundation to begin teaching yoga, transform my home practice, and revolutionize the way I approach day to day living. From delicious vegetarian meals to peaceful farm surroundings to compassionate, experienced trainers who helped shape a community of learners and practitioners of an ancient wisdom tradition. I attained my 200hr teacher training recognition, but I have also been forever changed as a human being. This school is the gold standard for yoga.”
Matt & Holly’s Story
Long before Yoga became mainstream, Matthew and Holly had a vision to create a place where these teachings could come alive in community and nature.
In 2009, they left behind their home and a thriving Yoga Studio in Little Rock to buy a 25-acre homestead in the Arkansas Ozarks. They were in their mid-forties at that time.
With only $27k, amazing friends, recycled material from the land, and a whole lot of sweat, prayers, tears, willpower, and trust in a higher power, Matthew and Holly began building.
Since then, their aim continues to be living their lives in service to others, sharing the traditional wisdom they carry, and supporting students in the pursuit of self-knowledge and freedom from suffering.
For them, the Shala is not a profession—but a devotion to truth, beauty, and the freedom that comes from remembering your essence.
Emily G, Program Graduate

It is a place that welcomes all guests and students inviting each to enter the flow of the yoga farm life. No matter what brings you to this graceful place, you are sure to be, at the very least, pointed in the direction of your true essence. ❤️”

How it ALL started
So much work went into transforming the property into what it is today.
The barn that sleeps most of our guests used to house chickens. The foundation was excavated by hand; twelve tons of manure was hand shoveled out and used on the land, all the rock that was unearthed was used for the border of the flower beds and the walking labyrinth; the animal paddocks were replaced with gardens; lumber harvested from the land holds up the pavilion; the tool shed was transformed into a quaint private cabin; more structures were added over time, like the garden cabin and the dining hall.
We will forever be grateful to Pat Riley, Louanne Lawson & many others for believing in the vision and helping to make a way.

About the Rose Angel Foundation
Circle Yoga Shala is also home to the Rose Angel Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization through which Holly rescues from slaughter and rehabilitates them.
Rescue horses usually arrive lacking the regular care needed for good health, and all too often also with severe infections and injuries from the harsh conditions and mistreatment they endure while in kill pens.
Should you be able to donate toward this cause, your vital support covers essential expenses such as their purchase, transport fees, comprehensive medical care, including dental treatments, chiropractic sessions, and vaccinations, hoof-trimming, and daily feeding, which can be as high as $500 per month, per horse.
Our sustainability focus & practices
Sustainability is woven into the way we live and practice at Circle Yoga Shala. When you join us, you become part of a community dedicated to living in harmony with the earth. Our daily practices reflect this commitment:
Composting – a simple yet powerful way to reduce waste and return nutrients to the land.
Mindful water conservation – honoring this precious resource by using it with care and intention.
Conscious energy use – making thoughtful choices to reduce electricity consumption and keep our footprint light, in balance with the natural rhythms around us.
Together, these practices create a cycle that turns waste into renewal, conserves resources, and helps protect the planet for generations to come.
If you’d like to contribute, we invite you to bring your food scraps and leftovers, which we transform into rich, fertile soil that nourishes our pastures, orchard, and flower gardens. All biodegradable matter is welcome—from fruits and vegetables to meat and dairy—just no plastics or paper, please.
FAQs

We get this question a lot. What we teach in our Foundational 200hr YTT is the basis for all styles. We believe that your Yoga Teacher Training should enable you to teach any style you wish, like for example: Power, Vinyasa, Chair Yoga, Pre-Natal and so on. Our other trainings have an overt therapeutic focus, but they are equally suitable to inform all styles of practice.
-
Yes, they are. Our 200hr YTT and 300hr YTTs meet and exceed Yoga Alliance standards.

If you’ll be spending the night, bring your bedding (sheets, pillow, blanket) and towels. Bring a water bottle, flashlight (phone flashlight works), yoga mat, and weather appropriate clothing + shoes (sun, rain, snow), bug spray, and sunscreen.
-
Absolutely not. :) We have plenty for your enjoyment.
