Graduate Spotlight: October 2019 October 1, 2019 holly krepps Our Graduate Spotlight for October is Jacob Budde! In his own words… I feel that the journey towards yoga as a lifestyle began in high school when I was a part of our wrestling team. Sure I enjoyed having our own fight club (what club?); the thing that really drew me to it, however, was a regular discovery of what the body is and isn’t capable of. Fast forward almost 20 years, and I find myself leaving a long term relationship and needing to rediscover myself. Enter yoga in earnest circa 2012. Upon finding it, the fall into an almost obsession was swift. After practicing a few years around Saint Louis, I was looking to go deeper. A friend turned me onto CYS & JH, and the journey took a more direct turn towards the most authentic version of myself. When I began practicing & learning the DYM, my love for the lifestyle deepened beyond belief. Although my knowledge of what I thought to be yoga was challenged on every level (on a daily basis), Matt, Robin, & all the other teachers held the space for me in such a way that, I was able to break down many barriers to learning I had inadvertently brought with me into the programs. I have continued to spread the ‘fire’ they’ve entrusted to me ever since. Currently teaching at a studio near my home in Webster, as well as some private/corporate work my life feels fuller somehow. It’s one thing to speak to effort in the hopes that the student receives the message; it’s quite another to be able to remain genuine, while turning the mirror towards the student so they can see themselves. This is what I have learned from the beautiful souls of CYS & JH. Om shanti.
